Vote for Pedro

Napoleon Dynamite made the "Vote for Pedro" shirt famous around the country.. That movie did not start the "Vote for Pedro" shirt, that shirt started when Pedro Martinez was on the Red Sox, hence the red lettering on the shirt. When the Mets signed him four years ago they released a little seen blue version of the shirt...

With his four year tenure coming to an end I for one would like to thank Pedro for the time he spent on the Mets... He has always been a stand-up guy and has been a great team player, even when hurt he did alot to help this team by keeping their spirits up..

Tonight as he left the mound with a 3-3 tie he pointed up at the crowd and pumped his fist to show his appreciation for the New York fans..

I know he is old and often injured but I would support the Mets signing him again for another year, he would make a great 5th starter next year.. As a #1 or #2 he is not a good choice, but with Santana, Maine, Pelfrey, Perez and Pedro I think we would have a great starting staff..

If the Mets don't re-sign Pedro I wish him luck wherever he ends up.. I know he mentioned earlier in the year he was considering retirement because of his ailing father, but if he plays again you know he will help out whatever team he ends up on..

----

Interesting Pedro note.. Pedro pitched 9&1/3 no hit innings in 1995 while with the Montreal Expos, Pedro gave up a double in the 10th inning before leaving the game. The Expos bullpen let that run score so Pedro Martinez is the only pitcher to have pitched 9+ no hit innings and lose the game!

----

When Pedro left the game our bullpen (Rincon) gave up 3 runs, thanks to some has-been heroics of Ramon Martinez and Robinson Cancel and the great tag avoidance skills of Ryan Church the Mets tied it 6-6 in the 8th. 9th inning - Reyes lead off single, stolen base and Beltran's single puts the Mets 1 game behind the Phillies.. The Brewers and Pirates are tied in the 9th and Phillies are not playing tonight...
